Ancient Theatre of Sikyona and Mantineia

Now with Taxi Artemis you have the opportunity to experience the fascinating coexistence of emblematic archaeological monuments with the beauty of the landscape. Precisely for this reason, we chose the specific destinations of the route, targeting to an interesting program.

Leaving the center of Athens, our first stop is the Ancient Theatre of Sicyon located in western Corinth. It is considered as one of the largest theaters of ancient Greece and appreciated as remarkable architectural monument. Thereafter, we will continue our journey to the Ancient Mantinea, a city with deep history. The archaeological site is extensive and includes the ancient theater of Mantinea, the parliament, parts of the ancient Agora, Roman baths and a temple dedicated to Artemis Mesopolitida. Next “culture station” is the Mycenaean cemetery 5 km. away from Palaiokastro with over 100 vaulted tombs and the ancient necromancy mentioned by Homer.

Following the map we will move to the Ancient Theater of Megalopolis in Arcadia, funded by UNESCO to highlight the importance of the monument after the appropriate restoration work. Our final stop of the journey is a temple well hidden in a true idyllic Arcadia, the Temple of Hercules just outside the city of Nemea. So here is the end of this particular excursion giving you precious moments of knowledge and beautiful memories. Marathonas – Temple of Artemis

Among the destinations of Taxi Artemis, you will find the city of Marathon, located in the northeastern part of the prefecture of Attica. In other words, if you are looking for a close-by destination or some quick getaway from the city, so this is an ideal choice for you.

Marathon became famous by the eponymous battle in 490 BC between the Athenians and the Persians. Beyond its historical value, the area is known because of its natural beauty with its rich flora and its blue waters on the coast. Moreover, we will move to the ancient Vravrona in order to admire the archaeological site of the area. A key finding is the worship Temple of Artemis, which rises with a backdrop of green fields, vineyards and olive trees and is connected with ancient myths around the person of Iphigenia. Closing, the last stop of our journey will be the coastal area of Loutsa, a node between Athens International Airport and the port of Rafina.

Isthmus – Ancient Corinth – Nemea

Starting our trip we will have a stop at the canal of Corinth. There, we will have the opportunity to photograph the channel and enjoy an energizing coffee to continue our route. Next stop is the ancient Corinth, a city with important political and commercial power during the classical period of antiquity. The Temple of Apollo is the most spectacular archaeological find in the area. Moving in time, the city is known thanks to the visit of St. Paul in order to preach the Christian teaching. Today, St. Paul is the patron saint of Corinth where it has been built a resplendent temple in his honor.

Leaving the ancient Corinth, we will draw the road to the city of Nemea. The area of Nemea is the largest wine-growing region of Greece, which produces the famous wines of Nemea (PDO). The area is famous for its wine since ancient times, when it was called Fliasion field. There, we will have some time to stay so as to have a lunch and taste the delicious varieties of the local wine.

Ancient Olympia – Corinthos Canal

Taxi Artemis offers a second alternative trip to Peloponnese which is ideal for those who need to escape from the city of Athens in a few hours. The first stop of our journey will be the canal of Corinth, where we will have time to enjoy a coffee and admire the channel. Thereafter, we continue chasing our path to Ancient Corinth, the city with important historical and religious significance.

In the classical period, Ancient Corinth considered the richest city-state of antiquity with significant political influence and commercial power. Leaving the archaeological site of Ancient Corinth, we will move to Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. In a place which combines natural beauty with deep history, it is operated the most important sanctuary of ancient times, the sanctuary of Olympia, which was dedicated to the father of the gods, Zeus. Within the church there was the gold and ivory statue of Zeus designed by Pheidias, which was considered in antiquity as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Corinth, Epidauros, Mycenae, Nafplio

During the Roman period, St. Paul visited the place so as to teach the Christian doctrine, so today a resplendent temple has been built in his honor. Next stop is the famous theater of antiquity, the ancient theater of Epidaurus, which is well-known for its acoustics and aesthetics. In fact, it is currently the most well-preserved theater than others of his age. Having already gained a lot of knowledge, we are able to move in the cosmopolitan city of Nafplio for lunch and walks in the beautiful streets.

The final destination of our trip will be the Ancient Mycenae; the city that has been inhabited since the Neolithic era and it is distinguished by its imposing fortifications, made of oversize boulders still applied in excellent condition.

In the rocky coast of southern terminus of Attica rises Sounio, a favorite destination which Taxi Artemis could not miss. Historically, Sounio was an important strategic point because by there the city – state of Athens controlled the sea passage of the Aegean Sea, Piraeus and the peninsula of Lavrion.

Along with its strategic location, Sounio is especially known because of the Temple of Poseidon located on the edge of the cape. Today, the place has been declared a national park and protected environment. This was some information to get ready for our excursion. When the route will leave the archaeological site of Sounion, we will travel to Lake Vouliagmeni, a real geological spectacle.

Reminiscent of a “natural pool” as the shape is oval, while the waters are brackish because they are fed from both underground sources and from the sea. The place has been developed for tourism and you can enjoy various activities such as swimming, fish spa, yoga / pilates and have lunch or a coffee in the excellent facilities of the area.

Just outside Kalambaka, between the mountains Koziakas and Antichasion, the huge dark colored rocks of Meteora rise, which were chosen before 1000 years by monks to create their faith. This is a very special destination for those who are looking for some peace of mind and require the necessary distance from the fast rhythms of the city-life.

Today, the access to the monasteries is not with ladders as in the past, but with stairs carved in the rocks so as to ensure the comfortable ascent of believers. Between the twenty-four monasteries, today only the six of them are operated while the other fifteen are uninhabited and dilapidated. Inside the temples we will be faced with wonderful frescoes iconographic programs, relics and treasures miniature that preserve reverently the monastic heritage. The monasteries of Meteora are nominated as a World Heritage of UNESCO since 1988.

If you are looking for a nearby destination of archaeological and historical interest, then the proposal of Delphi is ideal. The area of Delphi, known for their famous oracle, was in antiquity a very popular destination because of the provisions of the oracle reading from the priestess Pythia. Beyond its historical interest the area will reward us by its natural beauty. Before we get to the “navel of the earth” we will stand in another turning point at Thermopylae, known from the battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC.

The name of the area was based on some nearby sources of hot water and the narrow and rough passages whose gates someone could approach with difficulty. Finally, the route will be completed by our visit to the coastal Itea or the traditional village of Arachova, according to the destination of your choice. There, we will have the opportunity to taste the local gastronomy and the fine wines as well.

Athens – Piraeus tour

Taxi Artemis gives you the opportunity to experience another side of Athens located in the city of Piraeus. Besides the service of “Athens city tours”, we designed a different browser, dedicated to the famous township on the south of Attica.

Our first stop is the neoclassical building of the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus, whose construction was in 1895. Today it is one of the major cradles of civilization. We continue with the Ancient Theater of Zea opposite the Archaeological Museum of Piraeus, where we will draw a mental line in time discovering the role of Piraeus, the life of its people and the economic, artistic and cultural development of the country. Along the Marina Zea, we will be faced with the ancient walls of Piraeus built by Themistocles around 493-477 BC.

Our journey continues by reaching the area of Kastella and famous Mikrolimano. On the hill of Kastella, it is possible to visit the church of Prophet Elias and win few moments of spiritual uplift. Passing the Old Gate of Piraeus, we will finish our journey having a perimeter walk to the harbor and notice the famous sculptures of lions. Athens sightseeing tour

Taxi Artemis offers you the possibility to discover Athens and feel the experience of its special character through the most important monuments and buildings that are scattered in the streets. For this reason, we offer this tour specifically designed for those who wish to explore the city and its history through time. All you have to do is to enjoy the journey in the comfortable seats of our vehicles.

The first stop of our tour is the Acropolis, the magnificent sanctuary of ancient Athens. Up on the hill of the Acropolis we will stay about an hour and a half, so we will be able to learn more about the history of Ancient Athens and admire from above the modern image of the city. We continue our route by parking for about 20-30 minutes at Amalia Avenue, in front of Hadrian’s Arch and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the two monuments that were built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian and adorn the city center.

Our next stop is Kallimarmaro, meaning beautifully marbled, where we will stay about 10- 15 minutes to admire the ancient stadium, known for its revival of the modern Olympic Games in 1896. Leaving the Panathenaic Stadium, we will move towards Syntagma Square, the most central square of Athens that is located just in front of the building of the Old Palace, known today as the Greek Parliament. There, we will find ourselves in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, dedicated to all dead soldiers, where we will stop for about 10-15 minutes. Our next “cultural station” is “The Athenian Trilogy” of neoclassicism, designed by Danish architect Theophil Hansen: The National Library, The Academy of Athens and the main building of the University of Athens. There, we will remain for about 10-15 minutes and then we will descend to Stadiou Street and admire the Palace of the Old House, a main part of the Modern Greek history.

Next stops are Monastiraki and the traditional settlement of Thissio, where we will stay for about 45-50 minutes. The end of the tour will be a visit to Lycabettus Hill whose view is revealing the modern image of the capital city of Greece.
